Support the South Caicos Community
South Caicos Heritage Foundation's top priority in 2017 is Hurricane Irma recovery and response. Our goal is to become a part of the renewal and restoration of the rich culture, history and environment of South Caicos as people rebuild from an incredibly destructive event. We plan to accomplish this through:
- Partnership with local leaders and community influencers – we will work alongside the people of South Caicos. Their voice is what drives us
- Preservation of heritage – we deeply respect the history and culture of South Caicos and our desire is to honor that “ethos”
- Pride in the natural beauty, and resilience of the land and people of South Caicos
How Your Donations Help
Hurricane Irma devastated the Caribbean, with the Turks & Caicos Islands taking an especially hard hit. South Caicos specifically was directly hit with the eye of the storm, pummeling the island with 185 mph winds, storm surges and flooding. While we are happy to report there were zero casualties reported from any of Turks & Caicos’ islands and cays, the damage is quite extensive, completely destroying communities and infrastructure.
In the aftermath of the storm, the South Caicos Heritage Foundation was established with its highest priority set Irma response efforts. Immediate funding will be driven to recovery from Hurricane Irma such as water, food, shelter, counseling services, on-going education, and basic supplies to the 1300 residents of South Caicos island.
Your donation makes a big difference in a small community! 100% of donations support community development initiatives and long-term preservation of history, culture and community of South Caicos through revitalization of Cockburn Harbour’s historic buildings, the Queen’s Parade Ground and public areas of the island.
